Every dog needs to be trained to behave how you would have it behave. The television remote has all the functionality needed to control your television, but the human hand is needed to actually manipulate it. Your dog can already do these things, they just need to be shown how to do them.
You need to establish predictable feeding practices with any dog. Teaching your dog to realize that when you place its food bowl down, it will be removed within 10-15 minutes, will help it understand that there is a feeding schedule to stick to. Remove the bowl when he is done eating.
Give your puppy his own toys that he can chew to remove pain due to teething, and keep him away from chewing other items. Give it one of his chew toys immediately. If your puppy seems to be suffering a lot from teething, a frozen washcloth to chew on can give him some relief.
You should never tether two dogs in close proximity to one another. The chain of one dog could become wrapped around the other and, as the dogs struggle to free themselves, one or both could be injured. In the worst case, a large dog might be able to strangle or crush a smaller one, entirely by accident, while trying to free itself.
It may take several times for your dog to learn new commands. You might have to repeat the same exercise up to fifty times before your dog remembers it. Be patient and say the same command in the same way each time. Your dog will learn eventually.
It is best to train your pet without unintentionally affirming his undesirable behaviors and mistakes. Don’t give praise or treats to your dog if it does something wrong. Don’t scratch the dogs back, give it a snack or reward it in any way if it jumps, barks or does anything you don’t approve of.
Punishing Tone
Keep your tone of voice consistent when training dogs. Your dog will learn to recognize your tone and know they should obey. It also helps them understand the differences between a sharp punishing tone and a sharp non-punishing tone.
Do not spend too much time in any one training session with your dog. If you try to focus for a long period of time on one command, your dog will show signs of boredom and begin to get antsy. Keep first training lessons to 10 minutes or less.
Your dog needs an hour or more of exercise every day along with any training or bathroom breaks. Ensuring your dog gets thorough exercise will cause your training sessions to be much more effective, which will encourage your dog to behave better. If your pet can exercise regularly and be active, he will be far more happy and responsive.
Always make use of positive reinforcement when it comes to training your dog. Give your dog rewards every time he or she does something good. Never punish your dog with words or your hands. This is not a particularly effective form of training. Instead, make sure you are firm, patient, consistent and positive so that you can achieve the best possible results.
Training Sessions
Keep training sessions with your puppy short. Puppies can only handle small amounts of training, so it is best to keep training to short but intense periods of time. If you try to teach too much, he won’t like the training sessions and won’t remember everything. This will only frustrate you over time.
