Your dog wants to please you with his behavior, but he needs help figuring out what that behavior is. Your dog has the potential to be everything you want it to be, you just have to follow the right steps. Dogs already possess the means to be taught, but it is up to us to teach them.
If you in the crate training phase of your training program, you can use a few techniques to speed it up. A dog is naturally hesitant about a crate at first. A way to get them interested is to put their favorite toy in the crate, then shut the door. They can see and smell that bone, and they will want in the crate to have it. Once they go in the crate, praise them so that they know they did well.
Give your puppy his own toys that he can chew to remove pain due to teething, and keep him away from chewing other items. Give it an actual chew toy in its place. Teething can cause puppies significant pain. Give them relief by letting them chew on a washcloth that is wet and frozen.
Unless you offer a distraction or stimulus, your dog will probably focus exclusively on a single thing. After you repeat these cues enough, your dog will learn to focus on you, primarily, as he or she waits for signals.
Your dog must respect you in order for training to work. Make sure he knows that you know what you are doing and are in control of the situation. Then he will look to you and defer to your judgment. For example, when you walk your dog you must be in front and you should insist your dog follows behind you.
Shock Collars
Don’t use things like shock collars. They may not work very well and are far too expensive. Also, shock collars may actually hinder your dog’s development and thwart positive behaviors. The negative training causes negative outcomes.
Have a treat prepared for rewarding your dog when they follow a command properly. You want your dog to recognize that when you give it a command and it does the task, it is doing what you want it to do. You will ensure that your dog knows how to tell right from wrong if you do this.
When you approach a strange dog, make sure you approach him slowly and allow the dog to sniff your hand. Extending your hand lets the animal familiarize himself with your unique scent, making him more receptive to a friendly interaction. After the dog becomes familiar with your smell, he’ll start to trust you and listen to you.
Dogs need to be taught the right habits as soon as they are brought to your home. It is much easier to get a dog to learn the right way rather than making it unlearn its bad habits. If you never feed your dog table scraps, he will not beg for them.
Once a person has figured out how to bring out the dogs abilities to learn and be trained, it is simply a matter of practicing those techniques. Your dog will love making you happy just as much as you love seeing your dog behave.
