Important Puppy Training Techniques That Everyone Should Know
Everyone loves having a dog. They bring so much joy into our lives and a lot of love. Know that it takes a lot of dedication to raise a puppy. Your puppy will need lots of training to become a well trained dog. If you stay consistent with these tips, your puppy will quickly be trained.
Always give your puppy plenty of toys to chew on to help with teething pain. Otherwise, you might find your shoes becoming chew toys. Replace the tasty item you do not want chewed with a designated chew toy. A frozen washcloth is a great way to help your pup ease his teething pain.
Consistency is very important when you are crate training your puppy. Whenever you let your puppy out of the crate, he must be given the immediate chance to go potty. Doing so helps him learn when it is okay to go to the bathroom.
Avoid reinforcing negative behavior. Don’t ever reward a dog that is behaving badly. For example, don’t rub your dog’s head when they jump up at you and when you come in the door if you don’t want them to jump.
Training your pet to roll over very easy. Just remember to have treats in hand. First, have the dog lay down. Now, with a treat in your palm, move your hand from one side of the dog’s face to the other. This will cause your dog to use their nose to follow the treat. As a result, your dog will roll over. While he rolls, say “roll over” and repeat this action until he is able to roll over with only the command. Don’t get frustrated if it takes a few tries, once he learns this trick he’ll be the star of the dog park!
You need to show your dog how to properly walk while on a leash. This will make your walks together a pleasure and not a source of frustration.
If your dog wants to jump you should squeeze their paws when they do so, they will know that they shouldn’t do that. This will not hurt if done lightly, but it will be an uncomfortable feeling. Before long, you dog will stop his jumping on people altogether.
Get your dog’s attention the same way every time. Try to use the dog’s name in the start of the command. You can get their attention by doing this and then use the command. Usually, dogs quickly respond when you can their name and are aware you want to grab their attention.
During puppy toilet training, it’s important to avoid accidents. Watch your pet to identify his unique behaviors and signals that indicate when he must relieve himself. Common behaviors include snuffling, whining, and pacing around. If you see any of these signs, get him outdoors! Grab a leash and take your dog to a designated spot in your yard. Whenever your dog uses the restroom outside, reward him or her with lots of praise. At some point, he will start asking to go out.
Use a steady and commanding tone when speaking to your dog. Dogs are great at understanding how their trainer feels. A disciplinary command is best delivered in a stern tone.
After you have brought your new furry friend home, its time to begin training him. You need to have a lot of patience and give your dog a treat if they do well. It won’t be an overnight success story, but with time you both will be much happier.
