A dog is like a remote that must be properly programmed to work well with a television. The capabilities to work are already there in the remote but a person needs to manipulate it to get it to work with the TV. Your dog can already do these things, they just need to be shown how to do them.
Your dog will get used to its crate if it can feel at home in it. At meal times, try to place their food in the crate by leaving the door wide open while they’re eating. This way, your dog will associate positive things with being inside the crate.
Stay in control as you reward your dog’s good behavior. Once your dog follows your command, reward his behavior. Don’t get too excited, though, as your excitement may cause them to break their concentration. Be calm, expect calm, then reward appropriately.
A dog has an inquiring mind and will look at one thing for quite a while until its attention is broken. Dogs learn by repetition so with continued training, your dog will immediately focus on what you are saying.
Crate training requires crates of the correct size. Keep in mind that your puppy will eventually grow into a bigger dog. Choose a crate that can grow with him. The crate should be big enough for the dog to turn and lie down comfortably without feeling cramped.
Try not to reinforce bad behaviors from your dog. Avoid giving them any rewards they haven’t earned. If they jump on you, don’t pet them, for example.
When you begin house training, select a phrase to use repeatedly with your pet. By using a dedicated expression to handle training commands, you can make it easier for your pet to focus and make connections. Although it sounds silly to repeat something like “poopie time!” over and over, the consistency will help your dog make the right link between being taken outside and relieving himself.

Make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise in addition to scheduled training and potty break sessions. Making sure that your dog gets enough exercise makes your training sessions a lot more effective and it will also encourage your dog to have good behavior. A dog who has proper training and enough play time will be a happy dog.
When you’re training your dog, it is important that you understand primary reinforcement. Primary reinforcement uses something that is inherent for the dog to love as a reward for good behavior. Rewards can be rubbing a dog’s belly or giving it a treat. This way, your dog learns the right way to get what he wants.
Train your dog in a positive manner. Give your dog positive reinforcement if they do a good job. Don’t yell and/or hit your dog. Not only are those things ineffective, but they are also cruel. Stay consistent and use positive reinforcement.
Teach your puppy his name when you first start training him, as this creates a bond between the two of you. Use his name frequently, and train him to come to you when called. These are the first words your puppy should learn. It’s important that the time spent with your puppy is quality time. Spend your time playing with your puppy. This way he will get to know you quicker and will begin to trust you faster. This will make him more receptive in receiving advanced training in the future.
