Most people enjoy all kinds of pets, but especially dogs. Puppies, like most baby animals, have mischievous streaks. This article describes methods for training your dog like a pro.
Try to walk in your dogs shoes before you criticize them. Frustration may come quickly if your dog does not pick up your training of basic things quickly. Instead of completely giving up, consider looking at it from their perspective. Imagine the world like they do and that can provide you with a fresh perspective on training.
Teaching dogs to roll over can be easy, provided some treats are on hand. The first step is a simple “lay” command. Then hold one treat near his head and near the floor. Pull the treat over the dog until your hand is on the other side. They’ll follow your treat with their nose which will cause them to roll over. Whenever you dog does roll over, actually say the words, “roll over.” Continue to do this until your dog actually rolls over whenever you say the words without using the treat. Be patient with him when you are teaching this because once he learns it, he can be quite the show-off amongst your friends.
Shock Collars
Don’t waste your money on cruel, ineffective gadgets such as shock collars. They often do not function well as they say they do and are a lot more expensive as opposed to conventional methods of training. Plus, using devices like shock collars can stifle your dog and discourage even good behavior. These methods of training generally fail.
Approach an unknown dog slowly and let him smell your outstretched hand. This gives a dog a chance to become familiar with your personal scent, which engenders trust. Dogs are more likely to be friendly and obedient if they recognize you.
When house training your dog, be sure your dog has a predictable feeding and elimination routine. This way, you are aware of when your dog will need to do his business, and you can take him outside before an accident occurs. This helps your puppy learn to “hold it” for a bit, until he knows it’s time to go out and will help save you money on carpet cleaning.

Dog training means consistency. For example, state your dog’s name before giving a command. First, call his name then give him a verbal or gesture command. Dogs tend to respond by name right away and they know that you want their attention.
Teach your puppy his or her name before you start to train him or her, as this creates a bond. Use his name frequently, and make clear that you want him to respond by coming to you when you call his name. This should be the first thing you teach your puppy. Try to spend a good amount of time with your new dog. When you set this trust early on, the puppy will be more open to the next steps in training.
Call your pooch by his name to keep his attention focused on you. Use his name more when he is a puppy. By the time he is grown, he will automatically give you his attention when you say his name. Give your dog a relatively short name, preferably one that isn’t likely to be confused with other words.
When it comes to training a puppy, it is not a good idea to provide too much information and training at one time. A puppy has a short attention span and limited energy to focus, so keep your sessions brief and as positive as possible. If you try to teach too much, he won’t like the training sessions and won’t remember everything. This will only frustrate you over time.
You can have both a clean, orderly house and a few dogs at the same time. Having a dog that destroys things or acts rowdy makes it harder to maintain your home, but the problem is easily solved with good training. You can live happily with your dog if you keep the advice in this article in mind.
